Missions
Welcome to mudac, a Swiss museum dedicated to global and contemporary design, nestled in the Plateforme 10 arts district in Lausanne. A major player on the design scene, mudac stands out for its programme of daring exhibitions, its commitment to applied research, and its creative practices aimed at all audiences as it explores desirable futures.
Located in an iconic building designed by the architectural firm Aires Mateus, mudac acts as a genuine laboratory where scientific methods and creativity converge to boldly tackle contemporary issues. A strong advocate of the transformative potential of designers, it offers exhibitions, public programmes, and design and research projects that range from the applied arts to product design, architectural spaces, and urban planning, opening up all the fields of design.
Thanks to a rich programme of events and collaborations with designers, historians, and researchers, mudac exposes innovative narratives both locally and internationally. Join us to discover how design can help shape our world and address modern challenges with boldness and determination.
Values
Plateforme 10
The merger of the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts (MCBA), Photo Elysée, and mudac, together with the Toms Pauli and Félix Vallotton foundations, forms a 25,000 m² arts district in the heart of Lausanne.
Architecture
The project by Portuguese architects Aires Mateus showcases the complementary nature of the two museums, Photo Elysée and mudac, on either side of the light gap that marks the shared entrance. Open on all four sides, the forum/entrance hall brings together all the shared functions: reception, bookshop, and cafeteria.
Timeline
From 1967 to 2000 at Avenue de Villamont, then from 2000 to 2021 at Place de la Cathédrale, and currently at Plateforme 10, mudac continues to promote transdisciplinarity and dynamic exchanges with other disciplines.
