Designers Ami Drach (1963-2012) and Dov Ganchrow (*1970) founded their studio in Tel Aviv in 1996. The variety of their approach when working on industrial projects, furniture, lighting, interior architecture or exhibition design, has enabled them to explore new directions and aesthetics.

Their activities also maintain an ongoing dialogue between studio projects and academia, both having taught at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. From the DO cut-ceramic series is the result of collaboration between the designers and the ceramist Irit Abba that led to this tableware lacking its primary quality, i.e. that of containing. Each object – teapot, cup, sugar bowl, milk jug – was moulded in ceramic and then cut to present a version reduced to two dimensions. This section then exposes the technical aspects of the objects’ manufacture: the thickness of the partitions, the layout of the parts or details of the structure. It also makes visible the initial concept of the design, the section being in a way the equivalent of an architect’s plan.
