The first manifesto work from the Solar Lab, the projection displayed on the west façade of the Musée cantonal des beaux-arts in Lausanne is powered primarily by sunlight. As a result, it is intermittent and weather-dependent. Studio Lemercier has developed an innovative daytime projection system: heliostats ‒ i.e., motorised mirror systems that track the sun’s movement ‒ channel its light through multiple lenses to produce shapes. Their creation involved numerous complex steps, including 3D software, algorithms and meticulous machining, thus blending technology and craftsmanship.
