mudac pays trib­ute to Edou­ard Chap­allaz, one of the lead­ing figures in 20^th-century Swiss and  European ceram­ics

Bring­ing together an excep­tional selec­tion of works from the museum’s collec­tion, this exhib­i­tion offers a fresh perspect­ive on an artist whose relent­less exper­i­ment­a­tion trans­formed the rela­tion­ship between form, mater­ial and fire.

A master of stone­ware and glazes, Chap­allaz  developed a distinct­ive body of work deeply rooted in the earth and the land­scapes that surroun­ded him.  Beyond their strik­ing beauty, his ceram­ics celeb­rate  slow­ness, an attent­ive engage­ment with mater­i­als, and a profound respect for natural processes. Presen­ted in Le carré, mudac’s new exhib­i­tion space, this project high­lights the endur­ing relev­ance of Chap­allaz’s prac­tice, whose quiet restraint is matched only by its express­ive power. It pays trib­ute to an artist who made ceram­ics not only an art form, but also a way of think­ing, of feel­ing and of inhab­it­ing the world.
