Elisabeth Marier
Verre en scène cycle
Mudac’s contemporary glass art collection includes over 600 pieces. Nevertheless, the exhibition area on the museum’s top floor only allows for a tiny fraction of them to be displayed. That is why, every two months, Verre en scène (staging glass) presents a new art piece taken from the museum’s storage. This selection aims to be varied, dynamic and original – a novel display concept that also stems from a desire to showcase the porous boundaries between the fields of glass art, design and contemporary art. Thus, the works of international glass artists and designers and the use of various techniques and diverse creative contexts give this unique collection greater exposure. The display in darkness with focused lighting offers an opportunity for the viewer to approach these contemporary glass creations in a unique way.

Grand cornet légèrement fléchi by Elisabeth Marier, 1986
The series begins with the work of Elisabeth Marier, a Canadian glass artist. She realized this piece at the occasion of an exhibition at the International Museum of Indianapolis. The work plays with the duality of glass material, both malleable and solid, on the feeling of lightness and heaviness… Don’t hesitate to go on the 2nd floor of the mudac, and discover this work via an audio recording of the artist!
