Heroes of comic strips, films or TV series, singers, actors and famous sportsmen: who has not noticed the colourful and sometimes seductive illustrations on the glass panels of pinball machines? Evidence of a type of graphic art that was current from the 1950s to the late 1980s, these pinball machine panels from a private collection in Lausanne are presented to the public for the first time.
Clear lines and flat zones of colour are characteristic of these pieces, printed on glass in a silk screen process. Despite their disappearance as a result of the development of video games, pinball machine panels nevertheless remain magnificent examples of popular art.
In 2015, the collector Pierre Gonset, lender for this exhibition, decided to deposit 125 pinball panels at the mudac. A new presentation, Extra Ball, was set up on this occasion.
