Design Interviews, a project arising out of a collaboration between the Museum Alessi and the publishers Corraini, allows five great names of Italian design to express themselves on their design conception and their career as a designer. Andrea Branzi, Achille Castiglioni, Alessandro Mendini, Richard Sapper and Ettore Sottsass address themselves to this exercise with sensitivity, intelligence and rigour. In the films we find brief conversations, reflections on their childhood, their references, their ideals and their vision. This series of portraits brings out the multiplicity of definitions that can be applied to design while avoiding any monolithic, restrictive approach to the discipline.
Visitors will be able to view these five interviews comfortably installed in Zanotta’s famous Sacco bean-bag chairs. Each designer will be presented via a small, targeted group of objects, created and developed for Alessi, that are on loan from the Museo Alessi in Crusinallo, Italy. The interviews were written and produced by Anna Pitscheider. The mudac expresses its warmest thanks to Francesca Appiani, curator of the Museo Alessi, for her commitment to this exhibition.
