HEAD Workshop “Let’s Hack the Sun”

In collaboration with mudac and designer Nathanaël Abeille, HEAD – Genève organised a workshop entitled “Let’s Hack the Sun”.
Over the course of a September week, more than 80 students carried out luminous experiments, first around the Plateforme 10 district and in the city of Geneva, using mirrors to redirect sunlight towards areas deprived of it. From bridges, balconies, rooftops, bell towers and other elevated spots, they reflected natural light into everyday interiors and spaces: flats, squares, cafés, gardens and libraries. The project championed the right of city dwellers to enjoy sunlight in their living spaces, while showing how design can challenge existing urban organisation.
By “hacking” Geneva’s solar diagram, the students explored a form of life-sized architecture powered solely by free and inexhaustible cosmic energy. These ephemeral interventions were then gathered into a catalogue showcasing new ways of lighting up living spaces in daylight. The whole project culminated in a closing ceremony held at mudac.
